

Data for Action are a company focussed on their values, and on questions to move away from data for the sake of data. Data isn’t the goal, action with data is. The concept of the Data for Action design system is based on ‘buildability’.
Data morphs and changes and so does the identity system. An organic, ordered series of shapes and lines that represent growth, connection and change. The colours and shapes can be pushed and pulled dependent on client, topic and circumstance.

The Brief

The Data for Action team needed a useable brand identity that reflected their brand values and the process of their work that communicated their brand values - and made it feel fun!

Brand Workshop
The Brand workshop is a key step in the Badbishdesign process. We deep dive into your business, strategy, goals, clients/users and build a document together that encompasses your whole brand vision.
During the brand workshop call, we go through this together, pick some tricky - and easy! - questions and get to the bottom of your vision.
Once we’ve gathered the foundation of what your business is and what we want it to tell the world - it’s time to work out what you REALLY want… This is where Pinterest comes in. Our Pinterest board will have things you think you like, things you hate and maybe even some things you LOVE.
Sometimes it’s easier to see your reaction and gather what you DON’T want before I find what you do want. I’ve been doing brand design for a loooong time and trust me… your face always says what you like - even if you weren’t sure!

Brand Values
Where your brand identity sets your apart from similar businesses is in your approach and your brand values. Data for Action’s brand identity needed to work alongside their values to communicate how their process works, and what it feels like.
Starting the concept with their values at it’s heart, this created a new system showed how the business’ process builds dynamically, does things differently, and still is FUN.

The Design Process
What does the ‘design process’ actually mean?
It’s the research, systems and millions of clicks that find our way to a final outcome and a brand identity that represents you in your brand.
It might sound complicated, or intimidating, but actually, it’s just working through all of the information we’ve gathered together and finding the right way to communicate that visually. Okay, so it’s not simple… but it’s definitely not scary!


We worked with Sara to do the brand design for our company, Data for Action. The whole experience was great from start to finish. Really enjoyable to be part of the process and challenged on who we were and what we were about. The end product was awesome too. It really reflected what we wanted to be and it felt like Sara had really listened to all the (sometimes inconsistent) things we had been saying throughout.
Sara's approach is really well structured, but fun and flexible at the same time.
We were a little bit nervous about doing the work as it was a big step for us and we didn't have any design or branding experience. These nerves soon vanished as we embarked on the process. Sara is a very safe pair of hands and we cannot recommend Badbishdesign highly enough.

A GOOGLE BASED SYSTEM
The most important part of a design system is it’s usability. The Data for Action team build everything within google applications - so that’s where their system lives. From the beginning we knew we wanted to build something simple and user friendly for the team. This means every consideration was made to ensure we could use it in their preferred space.
What’s the point in a system if you can’t implement it?
